Saving On Children’s Clothes

One of the best ways to save money on clothing is to buy off season or one season ahead. I’ve been doing this for myself for a long time, but I’m pretty new at buying ahead for Ridley.

Last Spring I hit a huge sale at The Children’s Place and was able to get a TON of clothes for next to nothing! Right now, they are running a President’s Day sale with fabulous deals!

To make the deals even sweeter there is a 15% off coupon (click on the ad banner!) that expires on February 18th! Be sure to print yours and check out the deals at The Children’s Place today!  You can also shop online using a coupon code (click ad to see) to receive the 15% off discount.  When you shop online shipping is only $5.00!

If you shop online, be sure to use Ebates or Shop At Home to save even more!

Another money saving tip: Check your local children’s consignment sales. Usually they run twice a year (Spring/Fall) and are full of gently used clothes for fabulous prices! I know that in our North Alabama area, there are several consignment sales coming up really soon!

  1. I second Children’s Place and consignment stores! I get my kids nice jeans (Ralph Lauren or Gap) that I know will last a long time through consignment stores and I get their nice stuff at Children’s Place sales, JC Penney’s outlet or Burlington Coat Factory outlets.

  2. Thrift stores like the Salvation Army or Goodwill. I never – ever buy new clothes. It’s like buying a new car. Such a waste of money to say something is “new,” when it is going to be “used” the minute you put it on. In our area, I can generally buy childrens clothes for under $1 apiece. My clothes are a bit more, but usually not over $4 for designer label skirts or tops.

  3. This won’t help you with Ridley, but maybe if you have later babies:

I *carefully* sort and store all of our baby clothes. I give away the things that we had too many of (ex: onesies!) or the items that are too worn to go through another baby. But honestly, I keep most everything.

We aren’t ever sure if there will be any more babies at the Hill House, so I am not ready to give away clothes yet. They are organized beautifully up in our attic just in case they are needed again.

I realize that some mothers don’t want to go to the hassle of saving clothes, but it has saved us a ridiculous amount of money not having to buy twice!

Also, people at my church know that we are very willing to take hand-me-downs. Some stuff is usable and other stuff is not. I sort and keep what we need and donate the rest. If you’d like hand-me-downs, make sure people know it!

(Please ignore if these suggestions are not at all what you are looking for! 🙂 )

  4. I recently snagged $450 worth of winter clothes for my 2 oldest girls for around $50 at Old Navy. This included 4 pairs of JEANS for my almost-6-yr-old. I shopped their clearance sale when they offered 50% off of already-reduced items. Very nice, very easy, very quick. And, other than a few dresses, they are set for next fall!

I also love consignment sales, but just make sure the one you are going to is strict on the items they sale. Also, make sure you (basically) know the original price of the items you are searching for. Some people really mark up the price on their items… the sale I sell with and shop at has a great “guideline” for pricing items http://jbfsale.com/okc/files/JBFPricingGuidelines.pdf You can also use this as a reference when shopping 🙂

  8. You have to wait for a sale or festival to save more on child clothing. I’m always buying clothes on sale or festival season for my child it will help me to save more. Thanks for the amazing money saving tips.

  9. My friends are fluent in this skill: they manage to live three together on one small salary of the head of the family and still save for travel. It is very convenient when there are relatives who are ready to give things away after their child, we have it like that. Therefore, we spend more money on education, but the older the child, the more difficult the tasks, sometimes I can’t cope. It’s good that there are services such as https://writehistoryessay.com/ where I can order the writing of a historical essay.

  10. Hit Up Consignment Shops
Seeking out clothing at consignment shops is a great way to save money on kid’s clothing. A lot of the time you can find great clothing that barely even looks like they have been worn; and even some with the tags still on them at cheap prices.

Don’t just limit yourself to shopping consignment, you can also check out thrift stores and garage sales. A lot of the time you can get a full trash bag of clothing for five dollars or less. They are usually separated into groups of sizes and are gender-specific.
