Help For Haiti – A Time To Give

My heart is so burdened for the people of Haiti.  The pictures, the news, the stories, the reports, the devastation, the lack of food and water, the dead, the orphaned: this all weighs so heavily on my heart.

We are blessed and we have SO much to be thankful for, yet we are often grumpy in our attitudes, actions, words and countenances.  Too often, it seems that we are a selfish bunch of folks!

As I prayed today for the Haitian people, I wondered what our little family could do to help.  Not long after that Crystal tweeted that she had an idea, a plan, for helping Haiti!  Don’t you just love it when God drops opportunities in your lap?  Crystal has organized a Help for Haiti Drive!  She and her husband have committed to give $10 per link left on her blog post! Wow!

The gruesome truth:  50,000 Haitian people are dead, 3 million injured, thousands being buried in mass graves – life there must be literally a nightmare that is reality.

We must help!

“She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.”Proverbs 31:20

Here’s our plan: Prince Charming and I are committed to donate 1.00 per (Help for Haiti post) link or comment left on this post between now and January 21st – up to $100.00!  We are planning to donate to Compassion International.

How can you participate? Blog about how you have/are giving to help in Haiti (get creative!), then come back and link up your post permalink here, at Money Saving Mom and at other participating blogs!  If you need extra inspiration, visit the other participating blogs to see how others are giving!

If you are unable to blog and leave a link, here are some ways you can help:

  • Pray, pray, pray for Haiti – there are more needs than I can even imagine, but thankfully God knows all of them!
  • Leave a comment on this post saying what you are doing to help!
  • Stay up-to-date on news, needs and giving opportunities at Hope for Haiti, Samaritan’s Purse, World Relief and Compassion.
  • Spread the word using social media – Twitter and Facebook to raise awareness  about Help For Haiti!  On Twitter use the hashtag #help4haiti
  • Consider giving to a reputable organization: Mission boards, specific missionaries, Compassion International, Haitian hospitals, Numana, etc.

Now, let’s band together and watch God do an awesome thing as we help and bless the destroyed country of Haiti!  Are you with me?

  1. UPS is shipping anything under 50 lbs for free to Haiti. You can send clothes, shoes, etc. Spread the word…

  2. We donated through Crisis Response International (CRI). They sent a team down yesterday to assist with search and rescue. Thanks for doing this!

  3. We donated to the American Red Cross this morning. Thanks for using your blog to help convince people to donate.

  4. We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed–I can’t imagine the losses of the Haitian people.

  5. Thank you for doing this – every little bit will help! And it looks like there will be lots of “little bits” all over the internet the next several days.

  6. Thank you for doing this! Prayer and love are so powerful. I gave to Red Cross and Compassion International.

  7. Thanks for doing this! By the way, the UPS shipping free to Haiti is just a rumor. They have indeed made a large donation but are not shipping things there for free.

  8. http://www.just1dollar4haiti.org/ is the website specifically for earthquake relief for the nonprofit Haiti Cheri Havest Life Ministries (www.haiticheri.org). They are an mission organization that partners with Haitian people to improve their quality of life (education, food, medical, etc). Any money donated now goes to earthquake relief. You can check out the website for a link to up-to-date info and correspondence from Haitian friends about the earthquake and effects, and you can make tax-deductible contributions securely online. You are right that every little bit helps- most Haitian people live on less per day than we can scrape out of the ashtray for a Coke in the drive-thru. Having done mission work in Haiti, I have seen first-hand the desolation of everyday life for the Haitian people. This epic disaster is truly heartbreaking, and the long-term consequences are beyond what I can even fathom. Thanks for posting, and thanks for your generosity.

  9. We’re giving to Compassion International. I’ve also heard good things about Cure, so we’ll be looking into that. Thanks for doing this!

  10. We’re praying too. The generosity of Americans is amazing–may God use the gift where it is so desperately needed as well as pour out His showers of blessing upon America! Thanks Myra and so many of you.
