Ridley’s Jungle Nursery

I’m SO incredibly excited to be participating this week in Show Us Where You Live Friday hosted by Kelly’s Korner. This week we are touring Children’s Rooms or Nurseries! Yay! Ridley’s nursery is the only other room (besides the living room) in our house that is decorated.

His nursery was my project during pregnancy, but especially after I quit my Interior Design job at six months pregnant. I did all the painting…I’m a perfectionist…had to do it myself or else the “oops” would bug me to no end! Can you imagine sitting in the rocker, nursing day after day, having to look at a crooked stripe or paint on the crown molding? It would make me physically hurt…ok maybe that’s a little exaggeration! Ha!

Anyway, I didn’t really want to do a “themed” nursery and I even thought about sewing the bedding and window coverings myself. After I added up the cost of fabric and the time that I would spend making what I wanted, I decided to keep searching for a bedding set. I was completely surprised to find the NoJo Jungle Tales set on amazon.com and I loved it!!! It is a little more updated with bold colors and cute animals! I guess I ended up with a “theme” after all, but I’m very happy with it! I always thought that a Curious George nursery would be fun to do in a nursery, so we brought in a few things here and there to add to the jungle!!

Three walls are a soft Aqua blue and the other wall is a soft green with chocolate stripes. The crib was a gift from my parents and my sister and brother-in-law. The chocolate brown curtain panels came from TJ Maxx. I sewed all the ribbon on…yeah, that was a JOB. Rather, insane I think!

I got the letters and the little animals holding them from Hobby Lobby. I spray painted the letters and then hot-glued the animals, ribbon and letters together. The painting says “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” and came from Ebay for $4!

closeup of window valance
I made the curtain valances from one valance that came with the crib bedding set. I took the tab-top valance apart and used the pieces. The polka dot fabric at the bottom of the valance and the monkey (giraffe on the other window) are from the original valance. The green fabric is from a bed sheet that I got at JC Penney outlet. After a little brown broadcloth, some ribbon and a LOT of work, it was good to go!

I’m so happy with my oh-so-comfortable swivel rocker! It’s wonderful! The jungle animal throw was made by my sister…it’s beautiful, soft and SO perfectly warm for bringing Ridley home from the hospital on the coldest day of the year! I’m serious!! The round table was given to us and I painted it ivory. The lamp is from Target (fav. store) and I found a bunch of Dr. Seuss books at TJ Maxx (another fav. store)!!

This wardrobe is a family heirloom. My grandfather’s German relatives gave it to my grandparents before my Dad was born. Ridley is the 7th or 8th baby in our extended family to use this wardrobe. My Dad worked hard on it…made a few repairs, sanded and repainted it. Oh, and the stripes…well yes, they were a TON of work!! Up and down, up and down the ladder at 8 months preggo! Yay! At least I didn’t fall!

Ah, yes! More TJ Maxx finds! And my Curious George stash that I’ve been saving for years!

This changing table was given to us by one of my ex-co-workers! We are so thankful and blessed by her generosity! The mirror is from TJ Maxx (bet you couldn’t have guessed that!) and the shelf is from Target (bet you couldn’t have guessed that either!)!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed touring Ridley’s nursery! I can’t wait to come and visit all the rooms “on-tour.”
